In a symbolic gesture of partnership and progress, the UNICEF Sierra Leone Country Representative,  and the core members from the innovation section recently convened at the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI). The purpose? To foster deeper collaboration and chart a course towards amplifying mutual benefits between the two entities, while aligning activities with the visionary agenda set forth by President Julius Maada Bio in the recently launched National Medium Term Development Plan.

The conference room of the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI) hummed with anticipation. It was a momentous occasion, as colleagues from UNICEF Sierra Leone, led by the Country Representative, joined hands with the team at DSTI for a meeting of minds and missions.

The atmosphere was electric with possibilities as Director Abdul Malik Tejan-Sie welcomed the UNICEF delegation and other esteemed members of his team. Against the backdrop of past successes and shared aspirations, the meeting unfolded, a tapestry of ideas woven with threads of innovation and collaboration.

Echoing his sentiments, Director Abdul Malik Tejan Sie underscored the importance of synergy in driving impactful change. “Together, we have achieved milestones that once seemed insurmountable. From the Reimagine Education portfolio to our shared vision of making Sierra Leone a beacon of digital innovation, our partnership has been nothing short of transformative. Amidst nods of agreement and shared smiles, project coordinators gave brief updates on their major milestones, plans were set in motion to build on past successes and pave the way for a future defined by progress and prosperity. From leveraging digital solutions to address pressing social challenges to empowering the next generation of innovators, the roadmap ahead was illuminated by the collective vision of UNICEF and DSTI.

Sharing his thoughts with the august gathering DSTI’s Chief Operating Officer, Jasper Sembie intimated that “At DSTI, we believe in the power of partnerships to catalyse positive change. Through our partnership with UNICEF, we are leveraging our collective strengths to ensure that every child in Sierra Leone has access to the tools and opportunities they need to thrive in the digital age. The work readiness training offered at the Digital Learning Hubs complements the  President Bio’s HCD agenda.
